Aims

This Masters is designed for the training of professionals who wish to work in the teaching of, or in the provision of socio-cultural support to, the deaf as either teachers, interpreters or guide-interpreters. It also seeks to train deaf people as teachers of sign language, in order that deaf and deaf-blind people can fulfil their potential and help these communities become fully integrated in the welfare state and, thus, benefit the whole of society.

Admission/selection criteria and evaluation of applicant's academic and other merits

In line with UB directives, a Masters committee will be specially set up. The committee will comprise a program coordinator, a representative from the Faculty's Academic Commission, a full-tenured professor, and once the course has been running for a year, a student representative.
The number of places available on the program is limited to 35.
Should we receive more applications than places available, priority will first be given to those candidates with a knowledge of Catalan Sign Language that have experience working with groups associated with the national or international deaf community.
We shall then consider applicants from students and alumni from the faculty in possession of the degree and, finally, from all other UB students and alumni.

Specific admission requirements

The program is specifically designed for graduates and holders of similar qualifications. Applicants are encouraged from students who have experience of working or volunteering in groups associated with the deaf community.

Applicants should have no motor disabilities that impede effective signing.
