The objective of the Master is to prepare professionals in different fields of the management of fishing resources of the marine areas, from the social sciences perspective, in particular from the economy, and with special attention to Mediterranean characteristics. It is to achieve provide high level specialisation through:
- An analysis of the fishing system, exploitation mechanisms, marketing, evaluation and management, with special emphasis on the economic perspective and interpretation of fishing issues in the Mediterranean, an area which, due to its diversity of species and fleets and fragmented vessel ownership, requires management based on control of the fishing effort.
- A multi-disciplinary vision of fisheries management from the perspective of different sciences such as biology, economics, law and sociology.
- Acquisition of experience in the use of new techniques and methods for the development of a more efficient fisheries management, adapted to the conditioning social and environmental factors.
- An initiation into research, making a critical application of the knowledge, skills and competence acquired in the treatment of real problems related with the economics and management of fishing activity.
The objective is to provide the capacities to develop high level of scientific research and to assume the technical responsibilities in the area of the management of fishing resources.

To be graduate in some titulación of the fields of the Economic and Managerial Sciences, Biology, Sciences of the Sea, Law, Agricultural or Fishing Engineers. The decision of if the student's formation is adapted to follow the proposed Màster, he/she will have it the coordination commission.

In the case of graduates in other specializations, coming from other states or from particular Spanish universities titulation, the admission approach will be the likeness of the studies studied with the current Licentiates of the previously mentioned fields. Priority will be given to those people linked to investigation centers, administrations or professional institutions linked to the fishing activity that they have developed projects or that they have possibilities to develop them. Anyway, the commission of coordination of the Master will value in each case the adaptation from the previous knowledge to the profile of competitions to achieve in the Master.

For the students selection different aspects will be valued:
- academic file
- knowledge of the Spanish language (in their case it is open the possibility of a preparatory course in the months of summer in the CIHEAM-IAMZ)
- knowledge of the English language
- document of admission application to the graduate degree course in which is justified the interest for the mentioned course
- possibility to provide references from university professors or investigators.
