Aims

The Masters in Immunology provides students with the knowledge and skills to participate in a number of fields, including the many activities requiring an understanding of the immune system, its cellular and molecular features, functional processes and the cellular and molecular interactions within anatomic structures and general physiology. In addition, an in-depth knowledge of the immune system gives students the ability to evaluate pathological processes directly affected by the system as well as those pathologies associated with other physiological systems. The Masters is particularly relevant to those considering a career in the following areas:
- Research and teaching
- Biotechnology
- Medicine
- Veterinary science

Admission/selection criteria and evaluation of applicant's academic and other merits

To be admitted to this postgraduate course students must have a degree in either Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Veterinary Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, or an equivalent qualification in the biomedical sciences, awarded by a European university or a university in any other country, provided they have been granted prior authorization or recognition by the university. Graduates in other subjects can also be considered for admission but have to take an initial foundation course (worth 30 ECTS) in preparation for the Masters degree.
All graduate applicants must demonstrate a basic understanding of immunology, and a good grounding in cell biology, physiology, biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology. Students will be evaluated in these subjects and where necessary will be required to take an initial foundation course(worth 30 ECTS) to bring their knowledge up to the level needed.

Specific admission requirements

For admission to the Masters in Immunology, students must be able to demonstrate: knowledge of human and animal anatomic structures, knowledge of the main animal physiological systems, in-depth knowledge of molecular and cell biology at the level of signal transcription, translation and transduction processes, knowledge of the structures involved in the recognition of cell-cell interactions, knowledge of the cell cycle. In addition, students should have received previous training in the more general aspects of pathologies such as cancer, auto-immunities, hypersensitivities, graft rejection, immuno-deficiencies and the pathological phenomena associated with alterations of the immune system.
